In Night They’re All Gray

It wasn’t planned that our paths may meet,
And they crossed on such a throwaway night
I cannot forget your patter of feet
Or your dewy hair, lit by streetlight.
The electric gaze that we then shared
Is still enough to power my thoughts.
Your curt manner, how little you cared
That I had watched you knock over some pots.

How quick you were! Your gaze had shifted,
I felt I was a meal to be had.
True animal attraction! My spirits lifted.
You trotted on feet in velvet clad..
In my direction? There was no mistake,
Your decision and coat both equally gray.
Your predatory glint, eyes like a snake,
I reached to caress you, but then, with a sway

You turned away! Oh, how I’d been had!
You trotted off, making clear what you’d done.
The happy little bounce in your step made me mad,
You savored it, smiling: your victory won.
You stopped, in hopes that I’d give chase
But I knew better than to scratch that itch.
Your feigned innocence a feline grace,
You’ll not fool me you sly, catty bitch.
