Confidants

To those that I’ve lost, to those that I’ll find,
To those that I’ll sadly have left behind.
You’ve changed my life in more ways than you’ll know,
And you’ve all shown me more reasons to grow.
A man’s measure is not what he has done,
Or battles he’s fought, or fights he has won.
Nay, a man’s measure is indeed more “real:”
The impact he leaves, how he makes others feel.

For the friend who worries more than she should,
The one whose intentions know naught but good,
The half-small candle who burns twice as bright:
You outshine us all; you show us true light.

To my friend of a melancholic state,
With sarcasm flowing and wit innate,
Who shows us all the true meaning of care:
It is friends like you that are truly rare.

And finally, to my friend of great taste,
He who says all, who is leisurely graced,
Who laughs along, and consoles when we weep:
You’ve yet to fail to be candidly deep.

I’ve the privilege to be friend to you all,
Such friends that I’ll never have far to fall.
