Negative Picture

It's less what you are, and more what you're not
There's a whole world around you, unless you forgot
And it all starts in front of you, everything in sight
And it ties behind the ears, knotted up tight
It's above your reach and below your shoe
So subtract the difference and boom! There's you.

But perhaps this portrait's a little grandiose
So let's dial it back and pull in close
Of your height, you're the top little bit
The rest of you, dangling, is attached to it
A skeletal frame that surrounds you, a jar
But be careful not to forget who you are:

You're the five inches twixt left and right
And the seven or so that lay behind sight
You're the three pounds of thoughts floating in air
Disguised and coated in skin and hair
If that feels small, then it seems you forgot
It's less what you are, and more what you're not.
